Geotechnical Investigation…

A Soils Report is performed by a Geotechnical Engineer, and it’s purpose is to identify the soil types and characteristic classifications of the surface and sub-soil conditions on-site.

Soil Types…

In performing a geotechnical investigation, typically field work involves performing test hole vertical borings into the existing soil, in order to extract and log samplings at incremental depths.

Testing results are organized into a Assignment of Hole Identifications framework that can include Hole Type Descriptions;

  • (A) Auger boring (hollow or solid stem, bucket)
  • (R) Rotary drilled boring (conventional)
  • (RC) Rotary core (self-cased wire-line, continuously-sampled)
  • (RW) Rotary core (self-cased wire-line, not continuously sampled)
  • (P) Rotary percussion boring (Air)
  • (HD) Hand driven (1-inch soil tube)
  • (HA) Hand auger
  • (D) Driven (dynamic cone penetrometer)
  • (CPT) Cone Penetration Test
  • (O) Other (note on LOTB)

Recording the results of the borings will be organized into a framework that identifies:

    • FIELD PROCEDURES FOR SOIL AND ROCK LOGGING, DESCRIPTION, AND
      IDENTIFICATION
    • PROCEDURES FOR SOIL AND ROCK DESCRIPTION AND/OR CLASSIFICATION
      USING LABORATORY TEST RESULTS
    • PRESENTATION OF SUBSURFACE INFORMATION
    • BORING LOG AND LEGEND PRESENTATION FORMATS
    • FIELD TEST PROCEDURES

    Swimming Pool Structural Engineering...

    In some cases, soils conditions can be encountered in the testing of a project’s area of intended development, and these can require additional enhancements (beyond the standard schedule) in the prescription for fulfilling structural reinforcement requirements.

    The sizes, spacings, cage erection profile and concrete thicknesses, will be called out per the supporting engineering calculations and in conjunction with exhibiting a scaled Construction Detail.

    The new pool and/or spa will be designed for the site specific soil conditions, as well as other surcharge soil load (P.C.F.) considerations.

    Any new swimming pool and or new spa being constructed of steel reinforced concrete, will need to be constructed in accordance with a steel schedule and Construction Details.

    This information must be accompanied by an Engineer’s calculations and wet stamped authentication by that Engineer, stating that he / she is currently licensed in the State of the work being performed and that that supportive requirements will meet of exceed the the local building departments requirements
